Update on Ben Wolverton

Today is the 55th day since Ben fell off of his longboard.

Because it was a holiday, Ben had a pretty mild schedule at rehab. However, his teachers did work him harder today. In physical therapy they had him walk up three flights of stairs, and practice walking without a walker. Then his therapist had Ben dribble a basketball across the room. Ben went veeery slowly, but was able to do it.

Afterward, Mary took Ben out to Cafe Rio for lunch (one of his favorite places), and he downed his entire smothered burrito. So his appetite seems to be coming back.

To top it all off, he then went to a family barbecue at his grandparents' house. He has been doing so well, that they dressed him up in a cape as "Super Ben."

I stayed home today, writing on A TALE OF TALES, and also judged some stories for Writers of The Future. When I talked to Ben tonight, he was totally exhausted and looking forward to crashing by 8:30 P.M.

Tomorrow he gets another shot at his barium-swallow test, and we are hoping that he will be able to get back to drinking regular liquids.
