Update on Ben Wolverton

We're now starting our 29th day since Ben's longboarding accident.

Ben has been able to sit up today for extended periods of time, and is much more active. As you can see from his photo, his brain swelling has gone down. That leaves his skull a bit concave, and it is really pronounced today. I was told by the doctor that when this happens, we will begin to see where Ben is.

So, today was another banner day. Ben was able to repeat several words early this morning--the names of his nurses. Then he went to sleep, and was able to answer some simple questions when the nurse asked. When asked how old he was, he answered "16." When he asked what his favorite food is, the answer was "pizza."

So he got 100 percent on his tests today with memory, but he failed his swallowing test again. The speech therapist said that when you've had tubes in your throat for as long as he has, it often takes several tries to past the swallow test, so he will try again tomorrow.

I noticed on the Gofundme site that Ben got a large donation from the good folks at JordanCon. A lot of people have been offering help, and I've really been touched by this. Some of the people who've helped are really struggling with their own health issues. I don't want to embarrass anyone, so I will keep the details to myself, but I'm so touched by such kindness.

The first photo is from tonight, and shows Ben's concave skull. The second photo is from this morning and shows Ben smiling widely for the camera. Sorry that it's blurry.
