Update on Ben Wolverton

Today is the 42nd day since Ben fell off of his longboard.

Yesterday was a long day. Ben's big brother Forrest married Kaitlin Reber in the morning, so we had a lot to do to prepare for that. Then we had a luncheon at a local restaurant, and my wife and I actually escaped before the bride and groom did. We rushed down to the hospital in Las Vegas (about 130 miles from our home), and got Ben ready for his flight to Salt Lake.

We had a couple of problems getting Ben to the airport (traffic, minor delays), but made it with six minutes to spare. My old friend Rick let us fly on his private jet, which made the trip so much more comfortable and quick. (That may have been the nicest thing that anyone has ever done for me. I can't tell you how grateful I am for that.) With a private jet, we were able to drive Ben right up to the door on the way in, and again when we picked him up. That was good, because Ben really can barely walk, even with help. (He fell a couple of times trying to climb the steps and get onto the plane, then again later as we got him to the hospital.) Our flight time to Salt Lake came in at about 1 hour and ten minutes, and the flight was very smooth.

Ben made the trip with grim determination to just get through it. Indeed, he spent most of yesterday with that mindset.

We reached Primary Children's Medical Center late last night, and got Ben checked in and evaluated by about 10:30.

By then I was too exhausted to try to figure out how to get the pictures up and get on the local internet. I hope to have one of Forrest's wedding photos later today. Ben fell asleep quickly last night.

This morning he will begin his rehab, and we're so excited.
