Update on Ben Wolverton

Today is the 64th day since Ben fell off of his longboard.

We sent Ben's brother off to be a missionary last Wednesday, and then continued north with Ben, visiting friends and family. After spending months in the hospital, we all felt that we needed to get outside, so we took an easy road trip up into Idaho and the to Yellowstone. We had enough points with our time-share so that our trip really only cost us the price of the gas, so it was easy on the wallet.

In any case, Yellowstone turned out to be fun. I got to see a couple of wolves in the wild (eating a young elk), and we also saw plenty of buffalo, and elk, along with several bears, a mountain goat, and antelope, and a bald eagle.

Ben got stronger every day. We took him out in the wheelchair the first day, going along some of the walks, but on the second we just walked him, taking frequent sit-down breaks on the park benches. As Ben put it, "Each morning when I wake up, I can walk better than I did the day before." The improvement is dramatic, still. I think that the swelling in his hind-brain must still be going down, because there is a lot of improvement daily. He still has some mental blank spots. He will ask questions like "Where does pork come from?" and "Who is Leon again?" (Leon was both his maternal grandfather and his brother's hamster.) In any case, they're questions that he should know the answers to. So he'll have some catching up to do.

We found a park bench that looks like a longboard outside of the Snake Bite restaurant in Idaho Falls. So here is Ben, back on the longboard. We thought we might forward it to his doctors, to give them a scare.
