Update on Ben Wolverton

Today is April 24, the 22nd days since Ben had his longboard accident.

Ben is showing more movement today. He was moving his hands in circles yesterday, stretching his arms, and he's feeling around. He opens his eyes easily enough, but hasn't been focusing consistently, so we're trying to get him awake a bit more. Mary is going to stick with him while I write today (trying to finish up the Runelords series--I'm working on the climactic battle scene).

Ben took a "swallowing test" yesterday and failed. He was able to swallow, but it took 30 seconds, and that isn't fast enough for him to begin eating and get his feeding tube out.

Still, the nurses say that Ben is at that stage where they will want to send him out of the ICU so that he can begin physical therapy, so we should have a social worker come talk to us about that soon. It seems to me that this physical therapy is coming so fast. But I guess that he is going to need to relearn how to walk, talk, and so on, so he's got a lot of work ahead of him.
