Update on Ben Wolverton

Today is the 49th day since Ben fell off of his longboard.

Ben got his skull flaps put back on yesterday afternoon, so he is convalescing today. He had his roughest night so far, in some ways, at least as far as the pain was concerned, and spent the night vomiting and hallucinating.

Today his head is swelling back up again, but not as badly as with his first brain surgery.

So Ben took the day off from his therapies, though he did have a little occupational therapy today.

Ben is doing well overall, though he does have some "slips." For example, the therapist asked him a couple of days ago what he had had for lunch. He said, "I had mashed potatoes, tachuma, and peas."

"You had what? Tachuma?"

Ben: "Yeah, mashed potatoes, tachuma, and peas."

"So what is tachuma?"

Ben shrugged and said, "You know, tachuma."

I'm pretty sure that he was confusing the word 'tachuma' for chicken cordon bleu.

Last night, I spent the night with Ben, and he woke me up while talking to his brother Forrest and to his mother--neither of which was here.

So he's doing well overall, but we're hoping that by getting his skull put back together, he'll have fewer of these incidents.
